Racial profiling is being implemented today for the purpose of security measures. However, some critics are claiming that this ethnic or racial profiling is actually not effective and can even be insulting at times.

Is racial profiling really necessary? Can it really serve its purpose? Will it help in improving the way of life of the people?

The Top 3 Pros of Racial Profiling

1. Important Security Measure
This is because the rest of the measures have failed, especially in the case of the United States when the 9/11 terrorists were able to go undetected through the metal detectors. With the terrorists finding new ways of getting around the latest security measures, racial profiling is a morally justifiable thing since it is important to use tactics that can help prevent terrorism.

2. Reasonable
In spite of the anomalies, most of the organizations of terrorists that threaten the nation today are based on an Islamic form of ideology that is primary prevalent in Southeast Asia and Middle East. Profiling is being based on the reasoned assumption that it is those people in these organizations, located in the said countries who are most likely the terrorism suspects.

3. Costly
Once you use the finite resources trying to access and scan everyone, a lot of money and time will be wasted which could have been used on taking some other important precautionary measures like reinforcing the cockpit doors. These two can be costly, but one of them is wasteful while the other is useful. It will not just waste airport and state money but even the time of innocent customers.

The Top 2 Cons of Racial Profiling

1. No Guarantee That it Will Succeed
Considering that the rest of the security measures failed, it does not mean that racial profiling will also succeed. Probably, it is only a proof that there is no security measure that is completely effective. With the terrorists managing to maneuver around the previous barriers, chances are they will also be able to maneuver around this one.

2. Deliberately Racist
This can make generalizations regarding the whole communities. In some criminal cases, Supreme Court condemned racial profiling against the African Americans for such a long time since this is injustice. Once racial profiling will be used all over again in this way, uproar is bound to follow. But, Islamaphobia is currently being a socially acceptable type of racism. If one will consider the number of ethnic Southeast Asians and Middle Easterners or Muslim in proportion to the terrorists’ number, one will see that the fear has been founded on several cases. It is important that the State will not allow this institutionalized bigotry as based on a very little evidence.

How Do You Feel about Racial Profiling?

There is no denying that racial profiling can be very discriminatory and this is why it is easy to see that it might not really be that beneficial at all. How about you? What do you think about racial profiling?
