Welfare programs are set in place by the government in order to ensure a certain quality and standard of living for everyone in the country. These programs are mainly focused on children, making sure that their parents are able to feed and clothe them properly. Things such as food stamps, day care assistance, and unemployment are all covered through welfare. There are arguments about welfare being a burden to our society and highly taken advantaged of, but does that mean that they should cease to exist all together?

Pros of Welfare

  • The number one benefit of welfare is that it is ready to help the poor who cannot afford to buy the things that are essential for their day-to-day living. It is created and established for the people and not for personal concerns.
  • Welfare provides poor families food, medical assistance for their health and other basic necessities.
  • They are helping the people to find their right path and provide them ways to stand on their own because they will not be forever in a welfare program, it is temporary assistance. This is the reason why the people should do also their part for their own welfare as human beings and to provide for their families.

Cons of Welfare

  • There are some people under welfare programs who are abusing it and sometimes come to a point of being dishonest of what status they really in. They are depending too much on welfare programs, which should not be the case.
  • There are people who are unhappy being included in a welfare program because they don’t find it good or they are more prioritizing their prides rather than helping themselves.
  • Some welfare does not have the capacity of helping people in long-term due to inefficient budget.
  • There is no enough number of welfare programs existing that will be able to sustain the continuous growing of the population.

What You Think About Welfare

Even though welfare programs cannot sustain their capabilities of helping other people in long- term, they still manage and uphold the importance of lending help to those who really need assistance. It is not important if certain welfare has its advantages and disadvantages as long as it will do its functions, then there will no problem regarding it.
