Geothermal energy is a kind of energy that is derived from the heat of the earth; it is also the energy that determines the temperature of the matter. Geothermal originates from the roots ‘’Ge’’ which means earth and ‘’thermos’’ which means hot, that is why it is termed as a heat that comes from the earth. The internal heat that is coming from the earth is what you called the thermal energy; it is generated from the radioactive decay and the lost heat from the formation of the earth. Geothermal energy is adequate to supply the energy that is needed by many people, but only a small fraction may be profitable exploited.

Advantages of Geothermal Energy

  • It has low cost and there is no need to use fuel to generate the geothermal power, and because of this the purchasing, transporting and cleaning of it will just require low cost.
  • It cannot be affected by any kind of weather and unlike those other kind of solar panels that use the solar energy, geothermal power is not affected by the cycle of day and night and are not dependent on the light of the sun.
  • It is more advantageous and unlike other that obtained in coals and there energy is cheaper.
  • The energy that is produced by geothermal plants is 100% clean and cannot cause global warming. Since it is a renewable source of energy it does not create any pollution and harm to humans and to other species.
  • It is used as direct heating of homes and offices.
  • Creating of geothermal energy can create more jobs and opportunities for the local people.

Geothermal energy is truly helpful in providing energy that is safe and clean in the environment. Because it is cheaper, reliable, simple, and clean many are using it unlike those any energy resources that rely only on sunlight. The use of this kind of energy is truly helpful in improving the life of many people. But on the other hand, there are still some negative effects that you need to know and be aware of with the use of geothermal energy.

Disadvantages of Geothermal Energy

  • The installation of geothermal is not that easy, there is a need to hire a certified installer and skilled workers to have the plant located. There is a need to set up electricity towers and to get steam from the deep within the earth and because of this, it will cause too much expensive and require a huge time for investment.
  • It is not suited in all types of places; it is only appropriate on those places which have a lot of rocks below and those that can produce a steam.
  • It might release harmful and toxic gases that can be very harmful to human.
  • The transportation of geothermal energy is not easy.
  • Some of them are far from the cities and markets where it really needed to be consumed.
  • The amount of energy that is produced might not satisfy and reach the capital expenses that are used in the construction of the plant.
