Wind energy is the one that is responsible in capturing natural wind in the atmosphere and converting it into mechanical energy and electricity. The common equipments that are use in converting wind into energy are wind turbines, which are responsible in making electrical power, windmills responsible in making mechanical power, and wind pumps that is used for water pumping and drainage.

Advantages of Wind Energy

  • It is friendly in the surrounding and does not cause any harmful effects to human, there are no fossil fuels that are burn to generate the electricity and because of that it cannot cause global warming.
  • It is useful in many ways, windmills occupy only a few square meter that is why it take up only less space unlike those other power stations.
  • It is combined with solar electricity and that is why it is great in developing countries that will provide a very reliable source of electricity.
  • It is a renewable resource that is why it will continually provide to use by many people.
  • It can also be available even in remote areas, even in farms and mountains where it can be very useful.
  • It provides cheap, reliable, and steady and is a very great source of energy.
  • Installation of wind turbines and maintenance to its location are very important, that is why it will need some people who will work in the maintenance of it and because of that it will create and open a big opportunity for some of the people.
  • It is available in a range of sizes because of that many people and business can use them.
  • It is very useful in agricultural areas especially those who are on the business of farming.

Disadvantages of Wind Energy

  • The generating wind turbines can cause too much noise.
  • The manufacturing of wind turbines somehow can cause some pollution.
  • The wind’s strength sometimes is not constant, that is why it does not produce the same amount of electricity, and sometimes there is no electricity that is produced.
  • The construction of the wind turbine is expensive.
  • The wind power that is produced is so low that it cannot actually support a wind turbine and wind farm.
  • The large utility of wind turbines can have negative effects on some of the migratory birds.
  • The utility of wind turbines can disturb some of the home owners that are near on it, because sometimes it can interfere with the signal of the television and other gadgets.
  • In installing wind turbines there is a need to dig deep into the underground which can result into negative effects on some of the habitats that is located underground.

Wind energy has been a very useful form of energy because of its safe and clean effect, but sometimes because of the low energy that it brings that some rather choose to use those other energy sources. But even though it has only a low amount of energy that is produced, many are still using it because it is only one of the renewable resources that do not have any harmful effects to health of many people.
